With lot sizes ranging from eight to 2,000 units, Pepperl+Fuchs’s sensor production in Mannheim is a prime example of low-volume/high-mix manufacturing. In such an environment, classic setup concepts reach their limits, create down – time and reduce the productivity of the SMT line. At Pepperl+Fuchs, things work differently since the team around Christian Schwöbel implemented the SIPLACE Line Execution System (LES) at the beginning of this year for downtime-free setup changeovers.
