German and Chinese students visit electronics producer ASM Assembly Systems in Munich-Sendling

As the first intermediate secondary school in Munich, the Adalbert Stifter Realschule in Ramersdorf is hosting 28 Chinese exchange students from Lantian Middle School in Shanghai. While such exchange programs have been going on for many years between German and French schools, China was simply too far away. The exchange program at the Adalbert Stifter Realschule is changing all that. As part of an exciting program in Germany with excursions to the Bavarian countryside, cultural highlights and a visit to the now German-Chinese company ASM Assembly Systems, the students get to know each other while becoming better acquainted with their respective cultures.

ASM Pacific Technology completes takeover globally: New SIPLACE head for Cluster China

By taking over the Chinese Siemens Electronics Assembly Systems (SEAS) Ltd. on September 30, ASM Pacific Technology (ASMPT) has successfully completed its acquisition of the SMT placement machine division of Siemens AG. Renamed to ASM Assembly Systems Ltd., the company was integrated into the ASMPT’s ASM Assembly Systems business unit, where it will operate as the Chinese component of global SIPLACE cluster organization. The integration of SIPLACE and ASMPT is also progressing in the executive ranks with the appointment of Joe Poh, previously Director Sales & Marketing at ASMPT, as the new head of the Chinese SIPLACE cluster.

SMT market sending mixed signals

Mixed signals worldwide: The global order bookings in the SMT business for the first seven months of 2011 were almost three percent above the numbers for the same period in 2010, which in itself was a record year, but total order bookings from January to July dropped by 25 percent. The SIPLACE team was able to increase its market shares thanks to the good order bookings in China and Europe.

Nine months after the takeover by ASMPT:
SIPLACE CEO Günter Lauber sees great potential for growth

Nine months after his company’s takeover by Hong Kong-based ASM Pacific Technologies (ASMPT) and in time for this year’s Productronica, the SIPLACE team is well-positioned for growth and adding market shares. This was the essence of statements made by Günter Lauber, CEO of ASM Assembly Systems GmbH & Co. KG, in his speech at the SIPLACE team’s press conference in advance of the Productronica trade show. Lauber was upbeat about his company’s performance during the first nine months under new ownership. Instead of alienating employees and customers with restructurings which is what happens in many acquisitions and merger deals, ASM’s management kept the SIPLACE team, its management and its global cluster organization in place in order to keep focusing on customers and markets. According to Lauber, the success of this strategy is readily apparent in the fact that ASM Assembly Systems has been able to contribute to the sales and profits of the ASM group from day one.
